October & November in the BVI 2026: Events & Luxury Villas

As October arrives, the British Virgin Islands slowly wake from their quiet-season calm. The sea stays warm, the hills are at their greenest after the late-summer rains, and the islands' social calendar picks up again, with food festivals, holidays, moonlit beach parties and the yacht show that opens the sailing season. October and November are the BVI's insider months. You get the islands before the winter crowds, at a pace that suits a private villa. Here is what is happening across both months, and how to plan a stay around it.

Why Autumn Is the Smart Time for a BVI Villa Escape

Late October and November form the "shoulder season" between the summer lull and the peak winter months. For villa guests that brings real advantages. The beaches and anchorages are uncrowded and the restaurants are reopening with new menus. Booking is also easier, so you can still secure the villa and dates you want. The weather is warm, with water temperatures that still invite long afternoon swims. Hurricane season officially runs until November 30th, so it is wise to check current BVI travel information before you fly. But as the weeks go by the islands settle into the gentle trade-wind weather the Caribbean is known for.

October 19: Heroes and Foreparents Day

The season begins with a public holiday. On Monday, October 19th, the Territory celebrates Heroes and Foreparents Day, honoring the men and women who shaped the British Virgin Islands. It makes for a relaxed long weekend: some businesses close, families gather, and the islands take on an easy holiday mood. It is the perfect moment to arrive, settle into your villa, and adjust to island time before the festivities of the following week.

BVI Restaurant Week and the Food, Wine & Rum Festival (October 20–24)

From October 20th to 24th, the BVI turns its attention to the table. BVI Restaurant Week brings special set menus at restaurants across Tortola, Virgin Gorda and the outer islands. It is the best value of the year for tasting the Territory's finest cuisine, from fresh-caught lobster to refined Caribbean fusion. Running alongside it, the Village Cay & Rhythm and Sands Food, Wine & Rum Festival in Road Town offers cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and, of course, a celebration of the islands' famous rums. More details are on the Village Cay festival page.

For villa guests, this week is a chance to enjoy the best of both worlds. Dine out at the festival and Restaurant Week tables in the evening, then bring the flavors home: a private chef can recreate a favorite dish on your own terrace, or you can host a rum tasting by the pool with bottles picked up at the festival. A villa with an outdoor kitchen and a quiet courtyard turns every meal into an event.

The Full Moon Parties at Trellis Bay (October 26 and November 24)

Few BVI evenings are as memorable as a full moon at Trellis Bay on Beef Island. The October edition falls on Monday, October 26th, and November's on Tuesday, November 24th. Expect a beachfront Caribbean buffet, live music, mocko jumbies on stilts, and the famous fireball sculptures lighting up the water. It is a short taxi ride from our Tortola villas and an easy evening out that guests remember long after they fly home. If you missed it before, our full moon party guide explains how to make the most of the night.

November 10–13: The BVI Fall Charter Yacht Show

November marks the true start of the sailing season. From November 10th to 13th, the Fall Charter Yacht Show brings dozens of crewed charter yachts, crews and brokers to the BVI to present the season's finest boats. It is a good time to be in the islands. The marinas are buzzing, the newest catamarans and motor yachts are on show, and it is an ideal moment to book a private day charter from your villa. Sail to Virgin Gorda, anchor in a quiet bay for lunch, and come back to your terrace at sunset.

November 23: Commemoration of the Great March of 1949

On Monday, November 23rd, the BVI marks the Commemoration of the Great March of 1949, a public holiday remembering the peaceful protest that paved the way for the Territory's modern self-government. Like Heroes and Foreparents Day, it creates a long weekend that pairs perfectly with the full moon party the following evening. Plan a three- or four-night stay from Saturday to Tuesday and you have one of the most rewarding short breaks of the year.

Island-Hopping in the Shoulder Season

Between the events, autumn is one of the best times to explore. The seas are calm and the anchorages quiet. You can set off for the boulders of The Baths on Virgin Gorda, the white sands of Anegada, or a beachfront lunch on Jost Van Dyke, without the winter crowds.
