Lobster, Yachts & Christmas in the BVI

November is when the British Virgin Islands switch from the quiet season to the high season. The trade winds settle, the skies turn clear and dry, the charter fleet returns, and the islands begin a festive calendar that runs without a pause until New Year's Eve. For a private villa stay, these two months are the sweet spot: a full programme of events, warm sea, and still-calm beaches before the holiday crowds arrive. Here is what is happening, with dates, and how to plan around it.

Why November and December Are the Best Time to Book a BVI Villa

Hurricane season officially ends on November 30th, and the weather that follows is exactly what people picture when they dream of the Caribbean: low humidity, steady breezes and bright blue days. November is also Culture and Tourism Month in the Territory, so heritage workshops, traditional fungi music and local fashion shows fill the month. You can check the full programme on the BVI Tourist Board events page.

A private villa lets you enjoy all of it on your own terms. You dine out on festival evenings, then come home to your own pool, your own terrace and a quiet night. If you are still choosing, compare our rates and availability early, because the weeks around Christmas and New Year fill first.

November 10–13: The BVI Charter Yacht Show

From Tuesday, November 10th to Friday, November 13th, the crewed charter fleet gathers in Tortola to open the sailing season. It is the unofficial start of the winter calendar, and a good moment to see which yachts and crews are available. Many guests combine a villa week with a day or two on the water. A crewed day sail from Tortola is an easy way to reach the Baths, Jost Van Dyke or Norman Island without any logistics.

November 24: Full Moon Party at Trellis Bay

On November 24th the famous monthly Full Moon Party returns to Trellis Bay Market on Beef Island. Expect the fire sculptures that made it famous, stilt-walking mocko jumbies, live bands and beachside barbecue. It is a short drive from most Tortola villas, and one of the most photogenic evenings of the year.

November 27–29: The Anegada Lobster Festival

The weekend of November 27th to 29th belongs to Anegada, the flat coral island north of Virgin Gorda. The Anegada Lobster Festival is a self-guided food tour of more than a dozen restaurants serving creative lobster dishes, with beach parties, live music and dancing. It is the Territory's best-known culinary event. Book the ferry or a charter flight early, and plan to stay the night.

Back on Tortola, a quieter way to enjoy the same spirit is a lobster dinner on your own terrace. Our villas can arrange a private chef on request. Ask when you request a quote.

November 28: Lighting of the Tree in Road Town

On Saturday, November 28th, Road Town lights its Christmas tree and the festive season officially begins. It is a friendly, local evening with music and food, and a lovely start to a December stay.

December 4–5 and 11–12: Christmas in the City and in Spanish Town

In early December, Road Town turns into a festive hub with decorations, performances and holiday markets on December 4th and 5th. A week later, on December 11th and 12th, Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda celebrates with its own markets and community events. Both are easy to reach by road or ferry from a villa base. The full month is listed on the Club BVI December guide.

Which Villa for Which Plan?

Each of our villas suits a different kind of holiday:

  • Villa MyALL Tortola is the grand choice for family gatherings and larger groups, with an infinity pool and wide sea views.
  • Maxi Cooper at Cooper Bay is a contemporary retreat built into the rock, with open living spaces facing the sea and the sunset.
  • Mini Cooper is the intimate option for couples and small families who want privacy and a view.
  • M@M Cooper Bay is Maxi Cooper and Mini Cooper booked together, the two Cooper Bay villas side by side for friends or family travelling together.

You can see all three villas on our villa overview and compare special conditions on the offers page.

December 31: Foxy's Old Year's Night on Jost Van Dyke

The BVI's most famous celebration takes place on December 31st at Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke. Thousands arrive by yacht and ferry for live music, DJs and world-class barbecue at Foxy's. It is a unique party, and it sells out quickly, so book your boat transfer and any table well in advance. Many of our guests prefer to spend the day on the water, join the party, and return to the villa for a quiet toast at midnight.

Planning Your Stay

A few practical tips for the high season:

  • Book villas, flights and ferries early for the weeks of December 20th to January 3rd.
  • Allow at least seven nights if you want to combine festivals with relaxed villa days.
  • Arrange airport transfers, car rental and groceries before arrival. We are happy to help.
  • Check event details close to your dates, as organisers can adjust schedules.

If you are coming from the east coast of the United States, you can be at your villa in half a day. Take a look at our earlier article, October and November in the BVI, for the events that kick off the season.
